The Southern Food and Beverage Museum is a living history museum dedicated to the discovery, understanding and celebration of the food, drink and the related culture of the American South. Programs and educational events pay tribute to all the cultures that have come together through the centuries to create a unique culinary heritage. A collaboration of many, the museum allows food lovers of all stripes – Southerners and non-Southerners, locals and tourists, academics and food industry insiders — to explore the food and drink history of the South.

The Museum participates in this project because of the numerous opportunities to celebrate food in combination with Southern culture. Dozens of foods are mentioned in the book, including traditional Southern dishes.

The Southern Food and Beverage Museum will host the local kick-off event on Friday, Oct. 23, 2009. The kick-off event will include a demonstration by a local chef, who will present foods from the book. Other events at schools, libraries, churches and community centers will feature foods mentioned in the book along with lectures and readings and provide insight into the culinary traditions of the South.
